Ayrlies is celebrated as one of New Zealand’s most iconic private gardens. Evolving from a humble clay paddock into a 6-hectare tapestry of sweeping lawns, ponds, waterfalls, lush borders, and native wetland, it’s a place where artistry, ecology, and design converge.
Enjoy this unique and wonderful opportunity to be hosted for a light morning tea & talk at Ayrlies Gardens.
Begin your morning with a warm welcome at the Ayrlies Garden Visitor Carpark and Lych Gate, before wandering the gardens at your own pace as autumn colour gently unfolds across the landscape. Morning tea will be served at 11:00am, followed by an engaging talk from Assistant Head Gardener Abbie, sharing the story behind the creation and evolution of Ayrlies Garden and Wetlands. Guests are then invited to continue exploring the gardens and wetlands at leisure.
The extended wetlands, spanning 14 hectares and containing a 3.3-hectare lake, teem with over 80 species of native and visiting wildlife, from dabchicks to scaup. It’s a sanctuary not just for the senses, but for biodiversity.
Autumn is a particularly special time to visit Ayrlies Garden with the autumnal colours transforming the landscape into a spectacular and memorable scene.
