An unforgettable evening of storytelling from the coldest place on Earth. The New Zealand Antarctic Society is proud to invite you to a presentation by Christian Pilaar and a curated selection of captivating short films from the heart of Antarctica.
The films blend stunning documentary footage, curated by award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell, that reveals the continent’s stark beauty, unforgiving conditions, climate change, and penguin antics with stories captured by inventive and funny entries from the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica’s 48-Hour Challenge, an annual showcase of creativity and resilience from those who winter-over on the Ice.
Before the films, hear from Christian Pilaar will take us to the Antarctic Peninsula, drawing on his 2025 photography voyage that delivered spectacular landscapes and sunrise/sunset moments, the kind that make long, cold hours standing on a ship’s deck completely worth it.
