Fired Up Barbecue Festival Cancelled Due to Adverse Weather; Tai Tokerau Low & Slow Comp Still On

Fired Up Barbecue Festival has sadly been cancelled due to the current severe weather hitting Northland. This has impacted the organisers’ ability to set up the venue safely and on schedule. Artists are being rescheduled for later in the year and all ticket-holders will be refunded in full.

The Tai Tokerau Low and Slow Barbecue Competition can still continue on site which is great news. On Saturday 28 March from 9am – 3pm, 18 amazing Pitmaster Teams will be battling it out for the prizes and glory. These teams are heading up from all around the country to compete, including the current NZ Barbecue Alliance National Champions Rum and Cue and 2024 Champions Cook Cartel.

The competition zone is free to explore and it’s a great opportunity to meet the pitmasters, see some of their incredible set-ups and get some tips from the best!

The Kids Barbecue Competition is all go, with a massive $1000 Prize Pack for the winner thanks to Air New Zealand, Fish 4 Tucker, Savour Northland and Barbecue BOI! Open to kids aged 6 – 14 years old, the challenge is to creatively BBQ and serve some locally-sourced fish. The fish is provided, you need to bring your own BBQ, seasonings, additional ingredients and a responsible adult. Registration is only $25 via Barbecue BOI – email Ken at info@bbqboi.nz

All of our BBQ EXPO exhibitors will now be in this area and there is some great BBQ food available to purchase including Native Que Barbecue. If you are heading to the Old Packhouse Market this Saturday, make sure you check out the pitmasters at work!

Thank you for your understanding with the weather situation and we hope to see you at Tai Tokerau Low and Slow this Saturday and at the rescheduled event later in the year.

Nga mihi nui,
The Fired Up Team
